What's New 2004?

15th December
The website has now been moved to the new hosting company's servers. The email forwarders should all be setup and as far as I can tell, the website seems to be working. It also seems to have quicker response times to those on our previous hosts computers.

2nd November
The meets information (both past and future) is now available on the website in the Meets section. The November Newsletter (issue 241) can be downloaded from the Members' section.

27th October
The Hut bookings page in the Members' section has been updated so that it shows the current booking as well as future ones; previously it only showed bookings whose start date was in the future. I have also updated the text on the CMC page so that it has up-to-date fees and the correct number of parking spaces since the car park was enlarged. I have also corrected the cost of individual membership of the BMC, as stated in the Members' section. It now reads 950 rather than 950 as originally stated!

There have been many problems with the website this year due to our hosts. This has resulted in the destruction of our website twice, and we now have a reduced space of 25MB. The result is that I have had to remove over 100 images from the gallery so that the website stays under our limit.

12th September
Thanks to Andy Martin for providing a link to the County Highpointers and also to Adam Helman (County Highpointers webmaster) for encouraging me to find some clubs in Bolivia and France. It seems that there are more French clubs with websites than when I last looked. There are now 430 clubs on the list.

1st September
Photos from the Spring Bank meet and the Family/August Bank Holiday meets are now on the website.

26th August
The past and future meets from the September Newsletter are now on the website. The Newsletter is in the Members only section.

7th August
Updated details for the Shropshire meet have been added to the site. Thanks to Allan Mitchell.

15th July
After renewing our hosting with Ghoulnet, our account space was reduced from 100 MB down to 25 MB. Amittedly this was what we had paid for, but they had increased it twice in the past presumably as compensation for all the trouble we had. With that extra space, the site size had crept up and was at 26 MB (plus 8 MB of log files I couldn't remove). As we were then over the limit, I had to take the decision to remove something. I have therefore removed the first 100 pictures from the gallery which I am obviously not too happy about. I have become more and more fed up with our hosts over the last 9 months and am currently considering alternatives.

4th July
Having been away in Poland for a couple of weeks, I have only just got around to adding the past and future meets from the July Newsletter and pictures from the Spring Bank Holiday meet.

6th June
I noticed that the members email form was not working so I have fixed it.

25th May
I have only just remembered to put the PDF files for Newsletter 237 onto the website. I have also added Newsletter 238 (May 2004) while I was at it. All the meets should now be up-to-date.

18th May
I have added links to the Colorado Mountain Club and Hania Mountaineering Club sites on the clubs page and a link to Nature Bound Australia on the main links page.

10th April
Mel Owen provided me with an electronic version of the Constitution so I have been able to add it to the website - previously we only had up to article 6

9th April
I have removed the Membership Secretary's email address from the website and replaced it with a membership inquiry form. This is to stop the address being overloaded with spam as it will now require a human being to fill in the form.

26th March
Mel has started to scan in old Newsletters using optical character recognition, so Stuart has been able to add the past meets from Newsletter 179 to the website.

13th March
Due to problems with Stuart's computer, it has taken a while to update the current meets and the picture of the month for March.

11th February
Toby has started to restore the meets list and an email about a himalayan expedition has been put in the Members' section (see noticeboard).

3rd February
Information about BMC individual membership has been added to the Members' section

2nd February
Thanks to Mel Owen for the link to the Ski Club/Daily Telegraph snow reports which has been added to the links page.

27th January
Thanks to Peter Scandrett for pointing out some spelling mistakes.

25th January
We have been moved to a new server and I am now rebuilding the website from Poland!

20th January (added 25th January)
The server on which the website is based was hacked today causing lots of damage. The result was that all email stopped and the website became unuseable.

16th January
Thanks to John Turner I have updated the link to the Carn Dearg Mountaineering Club.

10th January
The January Newsletter is out so the future and past meets have been added to the website. I have also changed the username and password for the website and the new ones can be found on the 2004 membership card. I have also added a magnifying glass icon to the future meets list so that you can instantly search for the meet description from the list. The map on the CHAmois Mountaineering Centre has also been updated to reflect that some of the roads have changed (thanks to Toby Harling).

9th January
I have updated the site logo so that it contains the Club anniversary dates. A few broken bits of the website have been fixed. These included the redirection script from the Mountaineering Clubs of the World page, a link on the Mountaineering Centre history page and some of the error pages themselves.

6th January
I have checked the Who Wants to be a Mountaineer scores for 2003 and the overall winner was Jean Rostron. I have also added 4 Mountaineering Clubs from Iran to the list of world clubs taking the total up to 413.

5th January
Several new photographs have been added to the wales thumbnail gallery. The pictures of the month have also been updated.
